We were mooching around one of my favourite haunts about two months ago and stumbled slap bang into a pond. I was quite astounded to find it as it was in the middle of a wood. It was truly brilliant. I was ten years old all over again. There were dragon flies everywhere, frogs, butterflies, newts by the bucket load (with what can only be described as mohicans on their heads) and nymphs (creepy).Besides all this activity was an old log and on it these were growing. In their hundreds, like an arm ready to march. I have a British fungi book and was most disappointed to find that these didn't get a mention at all. I presumed that they would be really rather common. Now of course I am not so sure.
