Last weekend I spent four hours shooting the various colleges of Oxford. I was lucky, they were a hive of activity due to exams and the end of term. Various detritus; champagne bottles, eggs, flour and even feathers could be seen strewn around the streets. Not an uncommon sight, might I add.
So it was that I stumbled upon these three chefs sitting within the confines of one of the colleges, taking time out from what must have been a very busy lunch shift. Photographers often say that they know when they see a good potential shot. As I walked in these gents were to my right. I started to shoot straight away, I just knew this was a classic and then I moved around to get them head on.
The shots remained on my camera for a week but I felt certain that the height of each one went up in a form of step, small to large. If so this would really top off an already nice composition. When I revisted them I found I was right. You just couldn't choreograph a better shot. I get a wry grin every time I look at this. I think, although not something you would consider a classic Oxford scene, it still captures "University life". These are the people that keep the future elite and their lecturers, fed and watered.
