I shot this and yesterdays image in a woodland that wasn't managed. The contrast is quite something. The only way I can describe it is akin to that of 'Mirkwood' in Tolkiens novel 'The Hobbit' (one of my all time favourite books). There were branches across the path, trees uprooted and the canopy prevented much light from entering. It was really rather creepy and made me a little jumpy. Once I had settled my nerves I spent about three hours in the wood. It was gritty and a marked contrast to say an aboretum where you'll find set paths and debris is removed. I quite liked the fact that it was left to its own devices. It just added to the oppressive atmosphere.
